Spotlight: Hooded on last five starts; fourth of 16 in the Melrose Handicap at York (1m6f, good to firm) on penultimate start, meeting interference but staying on well from off the pace, and he improved on that form when 7l sixth of seven at 40-1 in the St Leger at Doncaster on final outing; gelded since; up another 5lb but seriously progressive.
Spotlight: Completed a handicap hat-trick last summer, the final leg coming from the front over 1m6f at Glorious Goodwood (good to firm); gelded in December and returned better than ever when close third of four in Listed race at Nottingham (1m6f, good) ten days ago; a bold show looks on its way.
Spotlight: Can race freely and has been hooded except on last three outings last term, running well in those only on penultimate start (wore today's cheekpieces on last four); reliable sort otherwise over 1m4f-1m6f, ideally suited by softer than good, and he has a competitive mark; tongue-tie (worn twice in 2023) returns; stable is among the winners.
Spotlight: Peak Flat efforts on good to soft and his latest win in this sphere was this race in 2023 off 5lb lower; off 318 days before a very mixed Flat campaign last year but he had two wins and two seconds from his four runs over hurdles this winter; off two months but needs a second look.
Spotlight: Won a handicap first time out in 2023 and 2024; mostly solid efforts in defeat in Listed and Group 3 races later last year over about 1m4f; probably needs a career best and the latest of his three attempts (well beaten in them all) over this far was in July 2023.
Spotlight: 8yo who was better than ever on Flat and over hurdles last year, including when second in the Ebor at York and winning at Ayr next time (4lb higher today); off 133 days before a hot race over hurdles (16-1) last Saturday, sprawling badly at the fourth flight; probably needs to resume improvement.
Spotlight: Flowered last term, most notably for a stylish 1m4f handicap win at Newbury (soft) in September; not disgraced in 1m6f/1m2f Listed races afterwards; no shock if she still has more to offer.
Spotlight: Best form came over about 1m4f on turf last summer, with two wins (York and Chepstow) and three close seconds, the latest at York Ebor meeting (2lb higher today) when he once again finished with gusto; 1m5f in the mud did not work out on final start and he was never dangerous in a warm AW race three weeks ago, but this trip is interesting.
Spotlight: Last season was disappointing on the whole and his last win was in May 2023; that suggests he's not the percentage call, but he's too well handicapped to be totally dismissed.
Spotlight: Useful on his day at up to 1m6f for the Gosdens; sold for 7,000gns in October and showed he retains plenty of ability on first two runs for new yard this winter, but latest start (February) was less positive; 6lb below his peak mark and a 5lb claimer is recruited.
Spotlight: Usually front-runner; last season's two wins (including in April first time out) came in small fields and although he was in the form of his life over 1m3f-1m6f in the autumn, better still will be required to win this race.
Spotlight: Last August (1m2f) saw his first win in nearly five years and he scored again two starts later in the Mallard at Doncaster (14.5f); ran well first time out in the last two seasons and he could be thereabouts again.
Spotlight: Usually front-runner but some slow starts have been interfering with that; fifth in this race in 2023 and his first-time-out record leaves something to be desired; second in last year's Chester Cup in May (2lb lower today) and best known for his exploits at that track, where July 2023 saw his last win; perhaps best watched this time.
Spotlight: Thrown in judged on his best form for Sir Michael Stoute but that was over 1m4f in 2020 when usually visored; absent for 1373 days (joined current yard for 27,000gns one year ago) and no headgear when fading right out of it at 40-1 in 1m2f handicap at Doncaster three weeks ago; now tries cheekpieces.

Andrew Balding won five races last Saturday, including taking most of the plaudits at Newbury, and he provides the headline contender in this race with Wild Waves, who was last seen when running with credit in the St Leger. He's the second choice and the trainer also has an interesting apparent second string in Lieber Power, who's trying a new trip, but Charlie Johnston has three options and the vote goes to his ALIGN THE STARS. The wheels fell off when tried in a Group 2 and Group 1 on his final two starts last term but the selection made a bright reappearance ten days ago and won two valuable 1m6f handicaps last season.[Richard Austen] Show less
From betting on the Gold Cup at Cheltenham to the Grand National at Aintree and the Derby at Epsom, at BoyleSports we bring you all the best horse racing betting markets and odds for all the races that matter. You’ll have odds on outright winners; you can bet on horses to place or back your chosen horse each way. You can place horse racing Accas or make a tricast bet. We’ve got all the racecards for races in the UK and Ireland and right across the world. And that’s not forgetting our continually updated horse racing tips and predictions too.
But we’re not just about the showpiece races. Our horse racing betting includes daily markets on all major single meetings throughout the racing calendar, with today’s horse racing odds live right up until the race begins. We also have virtual events running every minute with 10 different virtuals to choose from, giving you the chance to bet on horse racing just the way you want to.
Before you make a bet on a horse, there are a few factors to consider. Form is key for horse race betting, as you want to pick a horse in strong form going into the race. The trainer and jockey also play a big part – just think what an experienced jockey matched with a top trainer can do. Then there’s also the age and weight of the horse to consider, as well as the timing of their last race. All of these factors can come into play in the heat of a race and can have a decisive role in the outcome.
So, you’ve considered all the important factors. It’s time to make your bet. But there’s so much more to a horse bet than simply picking a winner. Of course, you can bet on a horse to finish first, but you can also bet each way–this means you win if your horse either finishes first or in one of the top places. And then there’s spread betting. This is where you bet against the spread rather than placing a bet on fixed odds.
It’s time to choose your race, your horse and your type of bet. And off they go. Once the race is finished you can track horse racing results right here at BoyleSports to see if you made the right selection.
You’ve read the betting tips, and you’ve made your prediction, but how do horse racing odds work?
The first thing you need to understand is the odds to win. This could be 4/1 or 10/1 for example, or even 100/1 for a real outsider. A horse at 4/1 has a 20% chance of winning. If it were to win you would win 4x your original stake. So, if you bet £10, your return would be £40 plus your original bet.
Now, that’s the simple part. Horse race odds will also include odds to place for each way betting. An each way bet is where you make two bets. One to win, and one to place. The odds to win will be shown in the usual way.
The odds to place will also be a fraction, usually 1/4 or 1/5 – these reduced odds represent the fact there’s a higher probability your horse will finish in any of the top four or five places than first. For a £10 bet for a horse at10/1 with EW odds of 1/5, your winnings would be calculated as follows:
To finish first at 10/1 £100 profit £10 stake.
To place EW 1/5 £20 profit £10 stake.

Horse racing comes with its own set of unique terms, especially when it comes to betting. Understanding these can help you make more informed decisions. Here are some of the most common:
SP (Starting Price) – The odds available on a horse at the time the race begins. You can choose to take a price when placing your bet or opt for SP, which may fluctuate before the race starts.
NAP – A tipster’s top selection of the day, considered their strongest bet across all races.
NB (Next Best) – The second most confident selection from a tipster, following their NAP.
Each Way (EW) – A bet split into two parts: one for the horse to win and another for it to place (usually top two, three, or four, depending on the race and terms).
Handicap Race – A race where horses carry different weights based on past performances to create a more level playing field.
Accumulator (Acca) – A single bet that combines multiple selections across different races. All must win for the bet to pay out.
Furlong – A unit of distance in horse racing, equal to 1/8 of a mile (roughly 200 metres).
Dead Heat – When two or more horses finish in an exact tie, meaning the winnings are split accordingly.
These terms are essential for understanding horse racing betting. Stay up to date with BoyleSports for expert insights, odds, and racing offers.
Alongside these top horse racing events, you’ll find betting markets and odds for the King George Weekend and Glorious Goodwood, as well as races right across the country from Chester, York, Doncaster, Wolverhampton, and more.
